KIM Suseong

Underwater Photographer | South Korea

KIM Suseong (VOAI) is an underwater photographer and marine storyteller based in South Korea. Having majored in Photography and Visual Media, he pursues underwater photography that goes beyond simple documentation, drawing upon his experience as a newspaper journalist in both the Social Affairs and Photo Departments.

He has explored waters across South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Mauritius, photographing sperm whales, humpback whales, dolphins, coral reefs, and diverse marine life. Among his signature subjects are the humpback whales of Okinawa, wild dolphins of Miyakejima, the rich marine ecosystems of the Philippines and Indonesia, and sperm whales documented in the Indian Ocean around Mauritius. Through his work, he captures unique moments that can only be experienced underwater while conveying the beauty of the ocean and the importance of marine conservation.

His relationship with SEA&SEA began with the MDX-A7IV housing. While comparing various underwater housing systems, he was particularly impressed by SEA&SEA’s intuitive interface and outstanding operability. He currently uses the MDX-α1U and considers SEA&SEA a trusted partner in capturing the ever-changing underwater environment, where seamless interaction between photographer and equipment is essential.

Currently, he works as an OCEANTAG Senior Photographer, LuettBiden Photographer, and SONY SIPS PRO Member. He also contributes underwater imagery to Getty Images, Adobe Stock, and Tongro Images. In addition, he has contributed to National Geographic and collaborates with Greenpeace Korea on projects that promote marine conservation and environmental awareness.

His work has been recognized through various photography competitions. In 2026, he received the Silver Award at the K-PHOTO International Photography Competition and was selected as one of the “100 Photographers Chosen by Galleryists.” He was also selected as a finalist for the K-PHOTO WAVE 7 Awards.

In recent years, he has expanded his focus beyond photography to education. To help promote underwater photography culture in South Korea, he is organizing group exhibitions with fellow underwater photographers and conducting lectures and workshops for divers and aspiring underwater photographers. Through sharing his experience and knowledge, he hopes to inspire more people to understand, appreciate, and love the ocean.
