This image was taken at Heron Island using the Canon EOS R5 Mark II in the Sea & Sea MDX-R5II housing, paired with the Canon RF 7–14mm fisheye (shot at 14mm). Shooting directly upward allowed me to frame Snell’s Window — that circular view you get looking up at the surface.
To get the balance right, I exposed the sky (ISO 100, f/11, 1/200 sec) and used dual Sea & Sea strobes to light the turtle from below. Without strobes, the turtle would be silhouetted against the bright surface, so the lighting helps bring back the colour and detail while keeping it natural.
The ultra-wide field of view of the RF 7–14mm makes it easy to fit both the subject and the full surface window into one frame, which really helps create that immersive feel.

All controls on the MDX-R5II are ergonomically designed to allow maximum camera operation. All major camera functions can be operated with the movement of your thumb and other fingers without removing your hand from the grip.
Your ports and gear can be used without modification with EF-mount lenses with mount adapters, so the system chart is identical to that of previous MDX SLR housings.

Other Features

The Port Lock prevents the port from turning or loosening and the Port Lock lever is specifically located to avoid being unlocked accidentally.
The housing is equipped with a lens-lock release button which makes it possible to change lenses easily, without opening the housing.
Pulling out the Focus/Zoom Dial gives sufficient room inside the housing to easily accommodate larger diameter lenses.
All controls have luminescence stickers which glow in dark environment.
Equipped with the Optical Viewfinder 0.5x as standard. Other optional viewfinders such as the VF180 1.2x can be used.

*When the VF45 1.2x is attached, slight vignetting occurs at the corners of the viewfinder.
*When the VF180 1.2x is attached, slight vignetting occurs at the corners and top of the viewfinder.
Equipped with two sacrificial zinc diodes (one on the front case and the other on the rear) to prevent electrolysis damage.
